You Keep Using That Word. I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means

There are times when I’m watching Project Runway, and I suddenly realize just how different the world of the fashionista is from the one the rest of us live in. This episode was one of those times.

As per usual, move on from here if you don’t care or don’t care to be spoiled. Follow the cut if you want to know my thoughts on last night’s Project Runway.

Second Question: Is It On?

I was wandering through the archives of Geekcrafts, as you do, when what to my wondering eyes should appear but this brilliant IT Crowd cross stitch:

There are eight other great geeky cross stitch projects in the same posting, but honestly… this won my heart like few things I’ve seen of late.

And if you don’t know what it’s about, do yourself a favor and watch an episode or two of The IT Crowd. It’s one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever seen.

They’re Ba-ack, or Ghosts of Seasons Past

Yes, it’s Tim Time again!

Well, that and Product Placement time.

And Blast From the Past time. Some more welcome than others.

As per usual, follow the cut unless you don’t want to be spoiled… or don’t really care about Project Runway.

The Sweet Life

Oh my dears, have I mentioned lately that Tim Gunn is totally my imaginary gay TV boyfriend? Because he is.

We had a Moment last night. Possibly two or three. And a bunch of other interesting stuff happened on Project Runway. So settle in with your favorite beverage (which you might do well to set down at one or six points in the proceedings) or snack (same counsel applies) or both (just have a new monitor at the ready), and follow me past the bouncing spoiler cut to learn more.

Times Square for Fashion

Darlings, last night began a new season of my beloved Project Runway, with my beloved Tim Gunn, and the fabulously deranged Heidi Klum back on my TV screen. Oh, and Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. Not that I don’t love them, but for me it’s all about Heidi and Tim. And the design. Okay, and some of the drama.

For those of you who don’t care and those who don’t want to be spoiled, here comes the cut. Follow it if you want to know who and what I’m snarking on.

Hmmm… Sounds Familiar To Me

On June 26th at 10/9C, TLC will be rolling out a new show that bears a striking resemblance to an old show that should have lived a lot longer than it did. Craft Wars will star Tori Spelling. In it, three crafters will go head to head against one another and the clock to make crafts out of items chosen by the producers. A panel of judges will then award points. The top two go on to a second round after which the winner of the episode is crowned.

Yes, this looks like a bigger budget Craft Corner Deathmatch without the Craft Lady of Steel or the gloriously grungy crafting cage. Plus there is apparently time for Spelling to mentor the crafters a la Tim Gunn.

In other words, it looks like they took the premise of a great show that was light years ahead of its time, sucked the genius right out of it, and turned it into just another reality contest show, only without giving us time to care about the contestants.

Still, I tend far more to optimism than pessimism, and I’ll give it a go at least once to see if things turn out better than I fear.

But I can tell you right now I already miss Amber.

Make It Sew… or Rather, Crochet

I, like me, you’re a dyed in the wool Trekkie, chances are you’ll love this arugarumi version of the crew of the Enterprise D by janaford.

You can find the pattern for Captain Picard free on Ravelry.

Oh, and if anyone wants the key to my heart forever? I’d love a DS9 version.

Just try to tell me Quark wouldn’t be an interesting challenge and a ridiculously cute arugarumi. I dare you.

All Star of All Stars Crowned

And so we come to the end of Project Runway All Stars. From thirteen designers, the competition was winnowed down to just three, Michael Costello, Austin Scarlett, and Mondo Guerra. At last these three talented men duked it out. The weapons? Mini collections of six looks. The ring? Gotham Hall in New York City. The results? Well, that was an exciting question to be determined.

Is This 24-Hour Catwalk?

No, it’s still Project Runway All Stars. They just decided to get inspired for the final challenge that will determine the winner, that’s all.

I’ll explain.
