Inspiration Gallery: Batik
By TwistieThis is the ‘Sidumolyu’ batik pattern. It’s traditional in Indonesia for weddings. Gorgeous, isn’t it?
But one of the great things about batik as a technique is its versatility. So let’s take a look at some less than traditional directions we can take it in, shall we? Yes, we shall!
For instance, take a look at this amazing, colorful batik on silk by Phyllis Boger, which is inspired by the amazing glasswork of Dale Chihuly. I don’t know about you, but I love it!
Or, you can go more the way that Kay Sheffer went and create a specific image, like her fabulous magenta octopus:
Oh, and if you love it, go here to buy greeting cards of the image… or even the original piece.
And returning once again to Indonesia, I love this charming batik image of a boat floating along the river. The nuance in the coloring is rather spectacular.
If you’ve been looking for something fun to try out, you might well want to consider batik. Oh, and if you don’t know where to start, I found some nice instructions here that are easy to follow.
Batik to you!
