Looking Through a Glass Camel

By Twistie

This has been me for the past week. I’ve spent a lot of my waking hours stabbing needles repeatedly into wool rovings and creating felt motifs. It’s really a pretty simple thing… but as I learned long ago when discovering bobbin lace, sometimes there’s amazing scope for adventure in a very simple thing.

So I went looking for a little inspiration the other day and what to my wondering eyes should appear but this:

It’s a needle felted Dalek complete with an LED light in the eyestalk! My Who-loving heart was exterminated on the spot. I needed to know who created this and what else they’d been up to.

As it turns out, the artist is one Glass Camel, and there’s a great deviantART gallery full of images both glorious and geeky. Transformers make up the largest body of work, but there are also dragons, characters from video games, and some really great animals. The capuchin monkey is exquisite.

Glass Camel, I salute you… and not with a plunger. No, you get the full Rimmer salute.
