Quickie Question: What’s the Last Project You Completed?
By TwistieSometimes it’s good to take a moment to think about what you’ve accomplished lately. For instance, I spent the other day making several lace ornaments. A couple will go on our tree, and a couple more will go to friends who will enjoy . So I’m curious. What’s the last project you finished? Did it turn out well?
And be sure to go check out the brilliant miniature work done for the picture above. It’s really fabulous.

Christmas present for my Mom. Knitted cowl with crocheted trim made from superwash and mohair stranded together in shades of dark blue.
Next up birthday present for Mr. R.

A very pretty knitted Estonian lace scarf (“Ulla’s Scarf” from “Knitted Gifts”) in a beautiful dark red/purple merino wool with a glittery thread plied in (Dream in Color “Starry”). It will probably be a gift for someone. It was fun to knit and not nearly as hard as it looks.
I wish I had more time to knit presents this year, but it’s just not meant to be.

@Orora: You know, purple red and sparkly is one of my favorite combinations. I’m just saying.

The last thing I finished was a knitted watchcap (“Turn a Square” by Jared Flood) for a Secret Santa gift. It was the 4th one I’ve knit– it’s my favorite go-to hat pattern when you want something slightly fancier than a plain stockinette cap, but not by much.

I just finished a Tomtem (designed by Elizabeth Zimmerman) sweater for my little nephew just ten minutes ago. The knitting was finished weeks ago, but it took me a while to get a zipper for the front and I just sewed it in tonight. I knit it in Shepard Worsted by Lorna’s Laces, in an orange, purple, green and blue colorway.

A simple, short, longsleeved jacket in a beautiful royal blue brocade I’d had sitting around the sewing room for a year or so. I participated in a performance of Handel’s Messiah this past weekend and as a soloist, I needed something dressy that would stand out from the chorus. Put the buttons on just before leaving the house (last minute finishing seems to be a tradition in my family) but got as many compliments on the jacket as I did on my singing! Next, finish a birthday quilt for Mr. Carol.

@Orora I looked up the pattern and the scarf sounds stunning!

Fully completed? Ends woven in, all finishing done absolutely completed?
I guess that would be the Faroese lace shawl I gave my boss when she was having some hard times. Oh! No, the chemo cap for my friend.
Nearly completed? A shadow-knit Mona Lisa, a coffee cup cozy, a Fair Isle pillow cover, and a just-needs-to-be-felted set of hot pads.
Finishing is not the fun part.

Mmmmm…Faroese lace shawl….
I recently took a class with Lucy Neatby (I KNOW!) and lusted over the sample of her Faroese Shawl pattern. Almost bought it until I realized I’d bought it at the last class I took with her a few years ago and hadn’t done a thing with it.
Thanks, Impkitti and Twistie! I’d post a picture here if I knew how.

I love Faroese shawls! They sit on the shoulders with no fussing!

I finished a couple of baby quilts for my new niece and her big sister (who is having problems coping with having another child in the house). One was a variety of different flannels, cottons, and sateen I bought in a kit, the other was a story quilt I made out of a piece that was designed to be made into a cloth baby book. It was the story of the monkeys jumping on the bed, turned out very well, and is very appropriate for my eldest niece, who is quite the little jumper!
